Hello, my name is Emily Johnston and I am the fall GCDC intern. I have been working for the past two months promoting the City including places to shop and restaurants to dine. Now, I have the opportunity to write about my experience of the exciting things that go on in Greensburg.
Friday, October 25th was a beautiful fall day. My mother Beth Ridge decided to leave work early and spend the day with me touring the Greensburg. Our first stop was at the Greensburg News Stand to talk to Alan Lydic the owner. Alan is a friend of my parents; we congratulated him on the one year anniversary of owning the business. Not only did we have a social visit, my mom bought lottery tickets for my grandma who was recovering from surgery in Execla Westmoreland Hospital . After that we walked up the street to The Chocolate Shoppe! Yum!! My mom found some dark chocolate bits for herself and my grandma. The chocolates and lottery tickets were the perfect “pick-me-up” for my grandma.
While the samples of chocolates were delicious, we were ready for lunch! Having heard stories of the food at One Eleven, I was looking forward to seeing the restaurant and reviewing the menu. One Eleven exceeded my expectations with an unique atmosphere that was sophisticated. My mom said the beef tenderloin salad was absolutely delicious. I ordered the strawberry chicken salad which was also delicious. We were starving when we arrived but couldn’t finish as the salads were huge! It was a perfect lunch to start out our day.
A short walk across the street led us to Golf for Her. This was the perfect stop as my mother loves to golf. The store has a large selection of everything golf related focused on women’s golf apparel and accessories. She bought a few golf skorts and a shirt that will elevate her appearance on the course to the level of her game.
We both decided NeverEnough! Boutique would be our next stop. This store is a girl’s dream! Shelves are lined with handbags, jewelry and accessories perfect for every occasion. I was looking through a jewelry case and found a Pittsburgh Pirates Bracelet from the Alex & Ani collection. I love the Pirates and it was the perfect bracelet. I also found a Brighten cross body bag that I fell in love with but, my mom purchased the purse. Hopefully, she will share the bag….maybe!
Our last stop had to be the Cupcake Shoppe for dessert! My mom and I split a red devil’s food cake cupcake topped with cream cheese icing. We saved the best for last as it was delicious!
I’m glad I had the opportunity to spend the day with my mom. While the semester has been busy, taking a day to enjoy the gorgeous fall weather with her was a great idea and a memory I will cherish!
